Transferable marketing skills, yes. But pointless?


This article from specialist recruitment agency Robert Walters suggests how transferable marketing skills can be enhanced and used to move across sectors.

This may work in the US, but here in the UK most employers are blind to the fact that you can work in their sector without experience in that area. This applies t0 B2B, B2C, SaaS, finance, start-ups, technology, publishing, and even niche sectors where the talent pool is extremely limited.

I have come across some very notable exceptions, but in general, the following extract is no more than pie in the sky.

For example in marketing, professionals with a solid consumer background are easily absorbed into multiple sectors such as B2B marketing and financial services. It is wise when starting your career in marketing to gain broad consumer experience so you can later have the choice to specialize in varying sectors.
